Dear Viewers,

So TV commentator Geraldo Rivera is kind of an idiot. He has entered the national discussion once again (which I am sure he is pleased with) by claiming that Florida teen Trayvon Martin was killed because of his clothing.
Martin, who was shot and killed last week by a neighborhood watch group member, George Zimmerman of Va., was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt, or “hoodie”, which Rivera attributes to being the teen’s ultimate demise.
In an interview with Fox news he stated: “I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly not to let their children go out wearing hoodies. I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin‘s death as much as George Zimmerman was.”
Earlier today, DC hosted a protest in honor of Martin in the District near Freedom Plaza at 2 p.m. Protesters were encouraged to wear hoodies which is not in response to Rivera’s remarks.
In its resonance, the story has created significant community protest while altering public discourse, namely on the issue of “stand your ground” legislation which protects a person who reasonably believes that force is necessary to “prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another.”
